Rather unusually, 2011 was a year of 'cover versions' for me (which I can't publish here for obvious reasons) It also represented the start of some musical projects with my brother Dave - you can find some of our work on my Posterous site here: cacophonyx.posterous.com - and Simin, as part of Jamfolder.

This year, I've worked on songs with various inspirations...

jamelopoeia - Rainy Thursday [1:50]

For some inexplicable reason, I wrote this on a rather sunny Sunday in February. It was recorded pretty much 'live' into Audition, and finished within about 90 minutes. When the muse hits and it comes to fruition in such a short time, it's always really rewarding.

I carried over a week's holiday from last year and was able to use it in May to enjoy some relaxation and revival time, which included a trip down memory lane, ending up in Canterbury. There are photos from my trip here: www.mus-ic.co.uk/gallery/CanterburyMay2012

What was remarkable about the trip was that, during three years at University there, I had never visited Canterbury's Norman castle! I was inspired to write a song for a 'modern day' princess, juxtaposing the tranquility and antiquity of the stonework with the busy ringroad just beyond it!
