Blue Order lyrics and song story

song story

The song concept came from Simon - a chance encounter and the thoughts and events that resulted from it, mainly in the mind and imagination of the song's protagonist. The lyrics took shape as the musical backing evolved - the song's basis was created in an evening, and grew from just a first verse and chorus. The middle eight came later, with additional counterpoint lyrics added to the final version.

lyrics

I don't really know why you came here
But now you're here, I'll keep you safe and warm
So take a seat and I'll bring you a cool beer
The possibilities that will be born...

And now I notice
Just from the way you touched my hand
It's not a protest, but it's not what I had planned.
And now you see me
In a way that no-one else has ever done
I'm free - we breathe as one.

I still smell the scent that you were wearing
I close my eyes, imagine that you're here.
But now I see the people are all staring;
Did I see something that's not really there?

Because I noticed
Just from the way you touched my hand
It's not a protest, but it's not what I had planned.
I thought you saw me
In a way that no-one else has ever done
I'm free - we breathe as one.

It's been eleven days since I last your face
And now I feel that I'm a loser in the human race.
My head is in my hands - I feel anguish and fear;
But when I look up, I see that you are here...
You're here.
You're here.
You're here.

And now I notice
Just from the way you touch my hand
It's not a protest, but it's not what I had planned.
And now you see me
In a way that no-one else has ever done
I'm free - we breathe as one.
